OPET / FEMOPET Network

One of the main activities of the Energy Centre Bratislava is carrying out the duties and responsibilities associated with membership in the European Union's OPET/FEMOPET Network. The Energy Centre Bratislava, in a consortium with the Slovak Energy Agency, became a member of the European Union's OPET/FEMOPET Network in 1998, and became a member of the EU's consolidated OPET Network beginning in the year 2000.

FEMOPET = Fellow Members Of Organizations For the Promotion of Energy Technologies

With the aim to extend the OPET Network into Central Europe, the EC launched on September 30, 1997 a call for Fellow Members of the OPET Network in countries of Central Europe. Organizations or consortia that became members of this network were responsible for promoting new and innovative European energy technologies, especially those demonstrated through the JOULE-THERMIE program, in a defined geographical area of the CEE. Their role was to extend the service already provided by the existing OPET Network to these regions. This provided added value and a multiplier effect to the Community's efforts in dissemination and promotion of new and innovative energy technologies and in international cooperation. FEMOPETs were integrated into the OPET Network, so they had access to all information exchange tools and other facilities available for the OPETs.

A new OPET Network

A new OPET Network is in operation from January 1, 2000 managed by the newly-created DG TREN (Transport & Energy). The OPET (Organizations for the Promotion of Energy Technology) Network was established under the THERMIE Program with the aim of fostering market penetration of successful new and innovative energy technologies. The Network consists of either public or private bodies with expertise in the promotion of new and innovative energy systems in a variety of technological sectors. The OPET Network exists to promote these new technologies in their respective geographical regions. The OPETs undertake a wide range of activities, such as specialised technical seminars, major exhibitions, and technology training sessions, media campaigns and sectoral and technical market evaluations. All OPETs provide information about innovative energy technologies as well as about means of support from European Union programs.
